Wagons West!
Sunday was moving day. The plan was to be packed and ready for Frank's sister Meg and her Husband John by 3, load up his truck and my car and head to Ambler on a partly cloudy day. Best laid plans...
So we woke up later than expected and got a call from Meg saying their sister Bridget was in town for a few hours, how about we grab lunch? Like you need to ask twice! I am very lucky, I love Frank's family. It's just a bummer that none live in PA anymore...though Meg and John are in Cherry Hill so it's like PA. Anyhow...
We were starving so we grabbed a quick breakfast then Frank did some packing. We headed to Jim's Steaks on South to meet all at 2...in the rain. As Frank would say, "of course". Between rain and getting the truck ready for moving everyone was running late, so it was more like 2:30 when Bridget and the Hall clan arrived. In the mean time we popped into the Eye Gallery and found a pole dancing skeleton. Great...
Bridget, Husband Allen, his brother, his mom, her boyfriend, and an uncle joined us for lunch and Meg and John made it just as we were finishing up. Clan Hall's flight was delayed so Allen and Bridget made a break for water ice and that's where we all got to catch up a bit. Bridget regaled us with tales of the wedding she was in town for. Instead of a garter the groom took off the bride's underwear, which rumor has it weren't as clean as she might have liked. It was at this revelation that Megan snarfed her water ice and Bridget ended up with grape hair gel. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen, especially since Bridget just took it in stride and started talking about the benefits of water ice as a hair product!
Eventually good byes were said and we headed to Frank's to get loading. Meg and I finished packing while Frank and John started loading and the heavens opened up. By 7:30 we were on the road...the universe mocking the last Musick to leave Philadelphia with torrential rain and bright sunshine at the same time!
We had to pause on 76 for a moment when the truck lost a 2 x 4 but that was the only incident. We got to Ambler, loaded everything on the porch and then started bringing it in. Frank started unloading the books from their wet boxes...only 6 or so got really wet and they seemed salvageable. 2 pillows took one for the team to save a bag of fabric (there will be another post about those pillows!) and the wardrobe box took a beating but the contents were dry so I loaded them into the closet before that changed. All in all he was pretty lucky.
We had a few beers and ordered pizza. John and Megan surprised me with birthday flowers and a Muppet card (they know me already!) and Megan gave us some herbs for starting a container garden. Very cool. By 11 we were all dragging so we called it a night.
A long, wet day but my baby is moved in and not going anywhere because I recycled all his boxes Monday. Hee hee.
