Do you know where your children are?

I like my job, and now it seems even the neighborhood is becoming amusing. There is a gated parking lot at one end of our building, it has the standard high chain link fence. Our office folks don't normally park there because they lock the gate around 4 and then you can't get your car out.

A woman just stopped into the office. She and her family had just moved here. She wanted us to know that last night her kids didn't come home...she found them locked in our parking lot! While we all tried not to laugh she told us she has instructed her children not to play there anymore, but we might want to check for children at the end of the day. Unfortunately we aren't the ones who control the gate, so we sent her downstairs to the guys who do.

The part of the story where we lost it was when she started explaining that they had a hell of a time getting the kids out. They got ladders and chairs...but one kid was really fat and they nearly killed themselves trying to hoist him over the fence. This is the sort of thing that makes me wish we had security cameras.

But here's the only question I have: Why didn't the kids climb the fence? We did it all the time when I was younger. Kids can't be that lazy these days, can they?
